Shanghai Shopping Guide
Shanghai shopaholic guide
Many tourists associate China with shopping. Indeed, prices in this country are quite low, they will please fans wandering around the shops and markets. What is worth bringing if your path lies in Shanghai?
You should go to the market, if only you know how and love to bargain, because the first price the seller named for any thing can scare you – because it will be very high, much higher than in a store. But if you do not concede, it will be able to bring down two or three times! You need to bargain, indicating the numbers on the calculator, you won’t be able to express yourself with your hands, because the Chinese do not think on the fingers like we do. There are many markets in the city. Depending on what you want to buy, you can visit one of thematic bazaars. If you have not yet decided on addictions, then go to the largest and most famous Xianguang (it is located on Hauihai Zhong Lu Street).
Clothes-footwear and other goods
Not a single tourist arriving in Shanghai passes East Nanjing Road, the city’s largest and busiest pedestrian street, full of shops and restaurants. There you will find almost all the brands that are in China, this is where shopaholics who do not like to bargain, but want to buy a lot of inexpensive and high-quality goods, should go. Find this street is very simple – it is located at the metro station of the same name. A couple of extremely popular places are the multi-storey shopping malls Raffle’s City and New World City on Shanghai’s People’s Square.
China is famous for its very high quality fakes. Whether or not to wear so-called replicas is a matter of taste and conscience for everyone. However, if you are still ready to go for it, be aware that a large market for such goods is located in the underpass of the Shanghai Technology Museum metro station. There is a good selection of all kinds of souvenirs. Watches are especially popular (you can find pretty elegant and tasteful pieces at a ridiculous price), bags (leather and not very), mobile phones – they are cheap, but if they work for a long time – how lucky. But remember that in some countries (for example, in France) it’s not even a sale, but just wearing fake things is punishable by a large fine.
Do not think that one consumer goods and fakes are sold in Shanghai. This is a fashionable city where you can buy clothes, shoes, bags from the best manufacturers, and here you can find goods made exclusively for the Asian market, which cannot be seen in Europe. For expensive branded items, head to Nanjing West. There is also one of the largest shopping centers in China with expensive boutiques. And if you’re not used to counting money at all, then you should look at Plaza 66, a giant shopping center that sells the latest in world fashion. And don’t forget that you can ask for a discount at any store in Shanghai.
You are unlikely to be able to return from China without tea, but take the choice responsibly: grass that sells for less than about 350-400 yuan (that is, $ 60-70) per pound is hardly worth taking half a world. In general, there are a lot of varieties of tea in China, each in its own region, and it is better to decide what you like before buying. There are many tea shops throughout the city. However, it is cheaper to buy tea in special markets, of which there are several in Shanghai. In all these places you will be offered to try different types of tea. A good choice at the Shanghai Datong Road Tea Market on the Datong Road or at Laoximen tea plaza (Laoximen metro station). Whether it is worth buying tea in an ordinary supermarket, decide for yourself: the cheapest varieties arrive there, and there you can not try anything. When you choose tea, do not forget that a soul-pleasing drink will be obtained only in a good teapot. Perhaps you should immediately buy it?
Interested in electronics? Then you have a direct road to XuJiaHui Street, where there are a lot of shops with all kinds of equipment. Just do not buy everything in the first place. Take a closer look at the prices, bargain, and only then make a decision, because the prices for the same goods can vary greatly. There is a specialized market for Starlight photo equipment in Shanghai, where prices are usually even lower than on XuJiaHui, but the probability of buying a fake and becoming a victim of scammers is higher. There you can also look at related products: bags, storage media.
The fair sex should pay attention to Chinese cosmetics, which is not so often found in Russia. And the various products that are sold here (for example, face masks applied to a fabric base, or products of the well-known brand Pulanna) in China are much cheaper than in Moscow. When choosing creams, keep in mind that many of them are designed for oriental beauties who dream of becoming white-faced, so these funds can have a whitening effect, and Europeans, using them, will look too pale.
