Excursion to Angkor Wat Cambodia
Angkor Wat is a place in Cambodia worth a visit.
Cambodia – Travel to Angkor
In general, Angkor is Cambodia. Therefore, it is impossible to come there from Pattaya just like that, without any border formalities. Another thing is that this is really a formality. A visit to Angkor is a separate item in the program of any more or less wealthy tour desk. A trip to Angkor by bus is also offered by representatives of our tour operators – those who have been working with the countries of Southeast Asia for a long time and, as they say, tightly. But we chose a different path – we went to Cambodia on our own. Especially to properly inspect the temples of ancient Angkor.
Cambodia. Excursion to Angkor Wat
It’s easy to repeat our route, but it’s more convenient to do it from Bangkok – it is easier to buy a bus excursion from Pattaya. Then a hefty ultramodern bus, in which you can take a nap quite comfortably on the road, will take you directly to the temple complex and back to the hotel where you stayed, with rides to other interesting places. In Bangkok, you can go to any ticket office and buy a ticket for a regular Bangkok Air flight to Siem Reap, a Cambodian city located just 10 minutes from Angkor (about 5 kilometers from the city center to the ticket office of the temple complex). This pleasure is inexpensive, and the planes flying along this route, although small, are quite comfortable. At the same time, you can personally evaluate the quality of service on Thai airlines.
The flight from Bangkok to Siem Reap takes about an hour and a half. By the way – there are a lot of flights, planes fly several times a day. Angkor is a very popular tourist destination, perhaps even the most popular in all of Cambodia. And you need to be prepared for the fact that your neighbors in the chair will be Thais or residents of other countries of the region who come to take a look at the temples of Angkor and … pray.
Cambodia. Excursion to Angkor Wat. Angkor – a huge, mysterious, magical city, growing straight from the jungle
It is convenient to combine a visit to Angkor for the farang “hovering” in Thailand with a visa visa – a trip to extend a 30-day visa for another month, all the more so since it costs a little more than a bus trip to the Cambodian border point, and the pleasures are “full pockets”. A Cambodian visa is issued directly at Siem Reap Airport and costs $ 20.
Here, we carefully warn you – it makes no sense to come to Angkor for one day (or for several hours, as provided by the bus tour) – you will not have time to inspect a tenth of everything that is here. Do not forget – in the heyday of Angkor (XII-XIV centuries), the lost city totaled from … half a million to a million inhabitants! Its dimensions are huge – 24 by 8 kilometers. True, the restored territory of the temples is less – something about 200 hectares. But this is too much to get around in one day. It is best to come to Angkor for three days. A ticket for a one-day excursion in Angkor costs $ 20, for three days – $ 40. You don’t need to buy anything in advance – tickets are sold at the box office at the entrance to the complex.
By the way – when you visit Angkor on your own, you should not worry about such “trifles” as a hotel and food. The hotels in Siem Reap, which is oversaturated with tourists, are apparently invisible, and all of them are noticeably cheaper than in Pattaya or Bangkok. You can find a hotel in your pocket and ideas about comfort in just ten minutes. As for the places where you can eat, with Siem Reap this is about the same as in Thailand (that is, everything, everywhere and always), but cheaper (although, it would seem, much cheaper).
And so – got there. We got out of the airport, hired a knock-knock (the usual price is a dollar), chose a hotel, moved in. Here, on the main street, Siem Reap was eaten – in any restaurant you like, of which there are almost more than hungry farangs … Are we going to Angkor? Better in the morning and all day. And you need to plan your trip so that the evening on the eve of the main event is spent in Siem Reap. And the morning is already in Angkor …

Transport? Yes, the same knock knock. Unlike Pattaya “tuk-tuker”, Cambodians are not at all spoiled by the naivete of tourists. And ready to work for a penny. But if the wagon doesn’t feel sorry for its legs, and you want to walk around this slightly strange city (Siem Reap – it seems strange after any Thai city, there are a lot of young beggars, and poverty catches your eye, which you still need to try to find in Thailand), then You can walk to Angkor on foot. True, you have to go to the temple complex itself – do not worry about my mother. Therefore, it is better to save strength.
Angkor … A huge, mysterious, magical city, growing straight from the jungle. The majestic (functioning!) Churches, carefully restored and not bearing the traces of a remake (like, say, our Orthodox churches). Stone chaos, in fact, precisely thought out, strict order – like a cast from Nature itself. Monks, monks, monks – in orange robes (men) and bright saris (women).
